Is ACCA Recognised in India?

ACCA is well recognised by multinational firms and global-facing employers in India, though it is not a statutory substitute for the Indian CA. Here's what recognition really means for your career.

Yes — ACCA is widely recognised in India, particularly by the Big Four, multinational corporations, global capability centres (GCCs) and companies that report under IFRS. What it does not do is grant you the statutory signing rights reserved for members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Understanding that distinction is the key to knowing where ACCA takes you in the Indian market.

Where is ACCA valued in India?

ACCA has grown quickly in India because so much of the work is international in nature. Employers who value it most include:

  • The Big Four and mid-tier audit and advisory firms, especially in their assurance, consulting and outsourcing arms.
  • Global capability centres and shared-service hubs run by multinationals, which handle IFRS reporting for overseas parents.
  • Multinational corporates and Indian firms with overseas listings or investors that report under IFRS.
  • Banking, financial services and consulting employers looking for globally mobile finance talent.

Can ACCA replace the Indian CA?

No. Statutory audit sign-off in India is legally restricted to ICAI members, so ACCA is not a like-for-like substitute for the CA if your goal is to sign Indian statutory audits. Many students pursue ACCA alongside or instead of CA precisely because their ambitions are international — IFRS reporting, MNC finance roles, or working abroad — rather than domestic statutory practice.

Is ACCA worth doing in India?

For a globally minded career, ACCA is a strong, portable qualification recognised in more than 180 countries. For a purely domestic statutory-audit career, the CA remains the essential route. Many candidates combine the two. Recognition, membership rules and any mutual arrangements can change, so confirm the current position with ACCA and ICAI before you commit.

Wherever you sit your exams, the thing that actually earns the qualification is passing them — and that comes down to applied, scenario-based answers. Practising real ACCA questions and marking them against the official scheme with The 50% Club shows you exactly where your marks are and how to reach the pass line faster.
